The University of Lucknow hosted a very special guest today. Col. Fasih Ahmed, son of Shri Siraj Uddin Ahmed visited with Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai to present him with his father’s original copies of Intermediate, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Law degrees. The excellently preserved degrees were among the very first ones awarded after Canning College became the University of Lucknow in November, 1920.

Col. Fasih, who himself was a student of University of Lucknow reminisced of the tales his father used to tell of the campus and said how the University has been a formative force in both their lives. Shri Ahmed passed his intermediate in 1920, and enrolled in the first bachelors degree course in the newly formed University Of Lucknow. He graduated with Chemistry, Botany and Zoology as subjects in 1922, and completed his professional law degree in 1925. In the same year, he was selected for the Imperial Police force and became the first ever Indian DIG of Uttar Pradesh the day India achieved independence. Prof. Rai thanked Col. Fasih for his unmatched contribution to the University, specially in its Centennial Year.
