Dr. Dilip Agnihotri

The subject of population control is not only related to the present. It also includes the idea of welfare of future generations. Nature has not provided unlimited resources to human beings. Population beyond a limit affects the lives of all people in some way or the other. Population control is essential for sustainable development. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had mentioned the goals of sustainable development during the release of the population policy. The United Nations had set the Sustainable Development Goals a few years ago. These were said to be useful for all countries. It was a matter of pride for India. Because these development goals included the thinking of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi had given the idea of economy with a view to human welfare during the freedom struggle itself. P. Deendayal Upadhyay also presented the philosophy of Antyodaya and Integral Humanism. It also had the goals of sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations were discussed in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Then the fact came to the fore that it has elements of the economics policy of Mahatma Gandhi and Deendayal Upadhyay. The thoughts of these great men were actually based on the thinking of ancient India. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released the Population Policy. During this, he mentioned the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. He said that the United Nations has set a target for the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Efforts are being made by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi towards achieving these Sustainable Development Goals in the country. In such a situation, necessary efforts will have to be made in this direction by the state with the largest population of the country. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the State Legislature discussed continuously for a record thirty-six hours to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. After discussion, committees were formed for inter-departmental coordination to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Progress in this regard is reviewed by a group of cabinets. In achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, there is also an important role of awareness among the public regarding these. The Sustainable Development Goals and Objectives of the United Nations include the point that Gandhiji always tried to achieve. Seeing the poor, he applied the principle of minimum consumption on himself. This never bothered him. Sustainable development proposals from the United Nations include poverty, hunger, education, health and happiness, education, gender equality, water and sanitation, energy, economic growth and excellence, infrastructure, industry and innovation, reduction of inequalities, sustainable cities, consumption and production, climate action, ecological systems, peace, justice, partnership. If you look at them carefully, this is the basic basis of Gandhi’s thinking. He wanted a world in which there is no poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition, disease, inequality, hunger. This was also emphasized by the United Nations. Gandhi’s dream was an egalitarian society. He wanted to make the world more protected. He gave priority to peace, justice and environmental protection. He wanted everyone’s participation in solving the problems. It is the duty of a capable person in the society to help the weak. Consider yourself a trustee of the property. Similarly rich countries should help underdeveloped countries. Gandhi had the spirit of contemplation that no one should be left behind. This is also the view of the United Nations. It is necessary to make efforts to achieve this goal. This is also the motto of Antyodaya. Control of population is also necessary to achieve these goals. Mahatma Gandhi was not only India but a global great man. Wherever in the world the issue of non-violence, freedom, humanity, harmony, cleanliness, welfare of the poor etc. arises, then Mahatma Gandhi is remembered. He devoted his life in making India independent. Still, he hated the British, not their rule, wanted to end their rule from India. This was his humanistic thought. He understood Pir Parai. wanted to diagnose him. These qualities established him as a world human. Seventeen resolutions were declared by the United Nations. At its core was the echo of Gandhism itself. This was the reason that the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly had decided to make Gandhi Jayanti historic this time. A thirty-six-hour session was proposed on the initiative of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assembly Speaker Hridaynarayan Dixit. It was worthwhile. At the same time, the state government had prepared an action plan for its implementation. But for its effective implementation it is also necessary to control the population. Yogi Adityanath said that if there is no gap between two children, their nutrition will be affected. This will make it difficult to achieve the targets of maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate. In the last years, efforts have been made to achieve these related goals, but these efforts need to be made more effective. He said that along with the efforts being made towards population stability, it is also necessary to keep in mind that it should not adversely affect the demographics of the country.

The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister has implemented many useful schemes in the direction of population stability. These schemes need to be implemented effectively through inter-departmental coordination. These schemes should be implemented with the mutual coordination of Medical Health and Family Welfare Department as well as Child Development and Women Welfare Department, various departments related to education and institutions working in the field of health. In the last four years, remarkable efforts have been made to reduce the total fertility rate, maternal mortality ratio and infant mortality rate in the state. Substantial success has also been achieved in these efforts.
