Amit Mishra ( Bureau Chief, Mumbai )
She is loved unconditionally by her fans for playing one of the most loved characters on Indian television. Think of Angoori bhabhi from producers Binaifer Kohli and Sanjay Kohli’s show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai! and actor Shubhangi Atre’s face pops up. The talented actor has been playing the character for almost four years and making people laugh. While everyone feels that comedy is a very tough game, Shubhangi feels more comfortable in making people laugh.
Doing comedy shows is more difficult than regular shows. Comment.
I feel that crying is difficult and doing comedy is easier for me. I find it easier and I have been a little funny from childhood. I wonder how I will ever get back to doing that in daily soaps. But I do love emotional scenes also. It is tough to make people laugh but if the content is good and writing and scripting is good, if your director is Shashank Bali, Manoj Santoshi, Raghuvir Shekhawat ji then things get easier.
Who is your inspiration in comedy and why? Who are your favorite comedian and why?
I think comedy cannot be forced. It has to be situational. Earlier people used to think that comedy has to be loud but I don’t think so. Bhabhiji has changed that completely. The kind of comedy that is done in this show with pauses and looks creates a lot of laughter. I am really inspired by legendary Johnny Walker, and then there is Johnny Lever ji and more contemporary, Bharti Achrekar, Kapil Sharma. So many people, I can’t take every name.
You have been in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain for nearly four years how much you relate to the character?
Too much. Angoori is such an innocent person. Her biggest USP is her simplicity and innocence and that is why I relate to her so much. She is also very homely in nature and I believe I too, to a certain extent am like that. The only difference is that I am a working woman but her innocence and simplicity is very fascinating and I believe even the audience like that a lot.
How much of your personality is used in Angoori Bhabi?
I think 60 percent because your face is the mirror of the character. It was very important that this character is innocent. I am the youngest in my family so, people treat me like a kid even today. So, I think even today I have a bit of childishness in me and that has helped me a lot with the character of Angoori.
How is it working with Aasif Sheikh and Rohitashv Gour?
Amazing. Both of them are great co-actors. Aasif ji pampers all of us and spoils us a lot. He is a wonderful co-actor and he shoots with so much ease and fun. My rapport with Aasif ji is so much fun because we can discuss any topic under the sun. He has so much experience that I get to learn a lot. Rohit ji is a thorough gentleman and is often in his own world. He is very polite, humble and keeps everyone happy. He can never upset anyone in this world. So, I am really blessed to have Aasif ji and Rohit ji as my co-stars.
How is working with Edit-ll Benaifer and Sanjay Kohli ?
It has been a great journey so far. We shoot with so much ease and comfort. And so far it has been great working with EDIT -II, which is Benaifer and Sanjay Kohli
What changes have you found in the industry over the years?
I think it has become a lot organized. Earlier there used too many erratic shoots. Things have become better in terms of timings. Another thing is that there is a lot of work for actors. Ever since OTT platform has come things have changed. I think content-wise we need to improve but otherwise there have been many good changes.
Social distancing is the new normal. What are your views on that?
Yes, for the next few months we have to maintain social distancing. We are all battling COVID 19 so it is important that until the vaccine comes we do it. After that things will be normal. I think until that happens, social distancing is the need of the hour and it’s good and we are all maintaining that.
