Lucknow. Department ofPhysics, University OF Lucknow organized a programme to celebrate ‘International Day of Light . This programme was announced by UNESCO in 2018 to the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer,Theodore Maiman.
On the first day of this programme, participants were appreciated and motivated by the honourable chief guest Prof K K Verma, Head, Department of Physics, Ram Manohar Lohiya Unversity, Ayodhya. Participants from various institutions across the country like IIT BHU, Kolkata etc of all the faculties including science, arts, commerce and vocational participated enthusiastically in the various activities like poster making, photography, extempore on virtual platform.
On the second day of this programme, a lecture series was organized in which chief guest Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Director, PRL,Ahamedabad,recepient of many prestigious awards, patron of the programme and Vice Chacellor of the Lucknow University Prof. Alok Rai, Prof. Kehar Singh, IIT, Delhi , gave valuable information to the students. Dr Bhardwaj told about chandryaan 1 and 2. Chandryan 1 carried 8 experiments in 2008. Other countries also put their experiments on it.
It provided result data to all those countries. Since then we have sent Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan 2 and India has become first country in the world to successfully insert an orbiter on Mars in its first attempt in 2013. Chandrayaan2 which was launched in 2019 and is sending excellent data since then.
Shortly we will launch ADITYA L1 to study sun. In future ISRO plans to explore other planets also. After this, Prof. N.B.Singh, from Sharda University, Prof. R. M. Mehra from Sharda University, Prof. Usha Malaviya, former Head of the Department of Physics, Lucknow University unraveled interesting facets of the science of light. In the next session of this lecutre series, Dr. A. K. Srivastava, Chief Scientist, Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Dr. Chanchal Johri Ayurvedic Physician, Dr. Nuzhat F. Jilani, Vanier College, Canada, Dr. Isht Vibhu, Dr Shraddha Rastogiand participants addressed the audience.Neary 400 participants were present.
It is worthy to be mentioned that in many temples of Ancient India, like ChhayaSomeswaraSwamy temple Nalgonda district, Telangana, Brihadisvara Temple, Thanjavur, Virupaksha temple, Hampi have expressed the laws of optics via architectural designing. Prof PoonamTandon, Head, ,Prof. Anchal Srivastava convener and Prof. Rajesh Shukla, of Department of Physics, University of Lucknow was steered the programme successfully.
